Beyond Horrabridge, the River Walkham flows under Bedford Bridge, Gem Bridge and Grenofen Bridge before meeting the River Tavy at Double Waters which is the most westerly point in Dartmoor National Park. I found a spot where the river was very shallow and there were boulders to step across and just a few inches of water to wade through. These two walks both give brilliant views for the Walkham river and other Tors in the area and on a good summers day make for a nice few hours walk, but remember you are walking in a military range for a good part of the walk, perhaps thats why it is so unspoilt !
Nearing the summit I had a second wind but I still struggled to make it back to the car. If you wish you can make your way down to the bank of the Walkham opposite a steep rocky outcrop and simply follow the Walkham upstream. We turned right when we reached it, and walked along to the new Gem Bridge over the River Walkham. This is pleasant but no better: it's bordered by trees most of the way, so views are limited, and the only points of any note are the 374-yard Grenofen Tunnel (reopened in 2013), the stone Magpie Viaduct, and the crossing of the River Walkham. There are some very rewarding views whether you walk up along the banks or indeed stay higher and look down onto the valley. With luck you should be able to manage it. As is obvious from the map, it is quite an uphill pull from the car park to these Tors, a climb of between 500 to 600 ft, all good for the soul.

Do not go too far north east on the descent though as Mistor marsh is there and it could be very wet indeed. We hired bicycles from the shop in Yelverton and spent a lovely afternoon cycling to Tavistock and back.
