Although I love RCHP, this bio is a whole lot of 'rinse and repeat'. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend it to anyone with an open mind and also anyone with substance misuse problems or if anyone you love has substance misuse problems. There is a lot about his drug use and his addiction, as well as his time with his band.It was hard to put down the book, great read. It's raw, funny, sometimes dark, and you cant help but appreciate the band even more after knowing its history. He doesn't seem to realize that there is anything wrong with that. Didn't feel it had a sufficiently interesting perspective to make it unique or likable. Such an amazing book! Scar tissue is a interesting book. The stories of his relationships with women are interesting but again very repetitive and at points of very questionable morally. Anthony Kiedis is a wonderful songwriter and one of the best frontmen in the business, Scar Tissue tells his story from day one up until the release of By The Way from a very personal and open perspective. An insightful look at dementia and the mind. He said it was as if he was having to learn how to be an adult in an adult relationship because his social upbringing was clouded with drugs. Though this one is brutally honest as the lead singer is using this chance to tell his whole story as a kind of therapy. Scar Tissue is a fascinating account of a fast-lane life, addiction, and a moving story of eventual recovery and redemption. I also appreciated the more academic philosophical musings through the narrator's exploration on the theme of self and stoicism and whether life is worth living in such a state.
One of the best books I've read. I thought this was an interesting read. Fairly gripping, but not one I'd recommend or re-read. by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Go to rehab. But there was still a sense of hope as the characters edged along the path of grief and trauma. If you're looking for a fly by the seat of your pants story, don't read this. He goes into a lot of detail about his relationships and how he recognised his character flaws and knew how important it is to work through them. Ignatieff’s novel hinges around his mother’s slow death from neurological illness but for me was really a philosophical study on loss, selfhood and death and possibly (I hope I am not being unkind) his fear about losing his own intelligence.

I can't recommend this book to anyone.
I've read many autobiographies of this genre but this was boring and went on way too long. For me this was tedious. In my opinion the book is a little overlong and could have done with a bit of a tidy up, for example does the reader really want a running dialogue of Anthony's arguments with his girlfriend. But the forgetting inside us cannot be stopped. I also appreciated the more academic philosophical musings through the narrator's exploratio. I had only heard of Ignatieff as an academic and politician, so I was curious to read his fiction when I stumbled across it. So great story, wished it was more developed, and the language at times can be a bit much. We’d love your help. The man is a true polymath: his writing is excellent and he has a clear, consistent voice. Go to rehab. Takes you through the truly rock and roll lifestyle he lived and draws you in and every up and down he went through. Then I'd remember it was a novel and marvel at how well the voice was done. Ignatieff is in the wrong business!
