Cloud strategy

The Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) is a Government entity responsible for providing and managing the central ICT infrastructure of the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain. Its mission is to ensure the highest standard of living and quality of life for citizens and residents alike, through enabling ICT platforms across the Government of Bahrain (herein referred to as GoB, interchangeably) which can provide comprehensive, accurate, and timely information as and when required.

The Bahraini Government is committed to modernizing government information and communication technologies (ICTs) and therefore, in 2017 announced a cloud-first policy, encompassing the fact that all government ministries would fully run on public cloud (Amazon Web Services) by 2019.

The fact that the Bahraini government was pioneering a full public sector cloud migration, its executive body, the iGA, was on the outlook for support around putting the right cloud infrastructure best practices and strategies in place. This was to assure that a solid foundation was built to support the larger endeavour of migrating all Bahraini ministries to AWS over the course of the next few years.

As technical arm to Bahrain’s first AWS public sector reseller C5, drie was the first point of contact for the iGA from July 2017 until April 2018. drie’s deep cloud experience in the Government sector allowed them to effectively advise and consult the iGA on their cloud infrastructure strategy and rollout. In addition to that drie managed the iGA’s AWS billing  and consumption monitoring for the period of collaboration.
