I bought one to check it out and use as a reference against the NOS and it was surprisingly nice and more than held its own. Let me know if you get the CU-29….I love to hear the results of that comparison. ok, that's 2 posts I've seen that says it makes a big diff, and one that says waste of money. I mean after all its just money, getting good sound for a sort music life

If you don't have the NTK in front of you, it uses a 6922, which from memory, is a 12AX7 variant. There is no question that it makes a significant improvement.

My research led me to purchase the RODE NTK. so i was searching online and found out the Telefunken web site is selling the tube but lot cheaper than the prices that i see here some people already bought online. The RODE NTK sets the standard for value in professional microphones. The only question that remains for me is if the Telefunken tube works with the 7 pin rode cable or if I will need to buy a different cable to use.

Unscrew the top, remove the two screws over the tube "protector", pull the tube, replace the tube, replace the two screws on the protector. Great advice. $69.00. First of all….please accept my sincere apologies for such a delayed response. My NTK sat for YEARS in the case, never liked the top end. Wow, none of you tech-heads have any opinions on mic tubes!?

...I upgraded both my NTK & K2 with Siemens E88cc gold-pinned tubes purchased on eBay for about $20 each...noticeable improvements on both mics (maybe a bit more noticeable on the NTK which was particularly "brittle" sounding on some vocals)... Any comparisons between the K2 and the NTK? If you haven’t already, you should also check out the Genalex Gold Lion 6922 (Gold Pin). Last friday I've had my first gig singing on the RODE M1! So the replacement task itself is pretty straight forward: I will post my thoughts on the results separately….there’s too much information to put into this post. I personally got a telefunken e88cc, let it warm up, and my microphone sounds absolutely different than the stock response. I wasn’t sure what to do with the mic before I upgraded the tube. The version on the website IS mastered, but I have an unmastered version if you’re interested.

I just got two of em’, I will test them out pretty soon! It was just too bright for me on every source I tried it on…. Yes…the tubes I used here are expensive.
