I will use this book to help students learn their ABC's and simple words.
Wonderful for the younger crowd (toddlers, preschoolers) to really focus in on. I think Julia's just a tad bit too old for this sort of story. It is a story about little letters taking a vacation to a town where there is nothing but letters, and while on the vacation they fight fires. There is a lot on each page and it’s sort of jangly but the story zooms right along and my fire-engine-loving son thinks it’s a great story. Be the first to ask a question about Alphabet Rescue. There was a repeated pattern- each page spelt a word in the background corresponding to the text. In this third title starring Charley’s alphabet, the lowercase letters takes a vacation to Alphabet City, where they work together to refurbish an old fire truck and save the letter factory when it erupts intos flames. Preschool children would love the fun illustrations while learning at the same time.

Mommy loves books concerning books, libraries, letters, etc. ( Log Out /  rather than overtly teaching alphabetic principles. ( Log Out /  The only things about this book is not all of the letters are used, they don't come in order, and it is not realistic because they are in a different world. We haven’t read the others but the lure of the bright shining red fire engine on the front cover pulled my son in at the library! So for example on the A-B page the bear is looking at the apple pie; on the J-K-L page we are in the sky with the jay, the kite, and the lark. In doing so, they are recognized for being just as important. They are impressed with the new fire engine that an upper-case alphabet has but are too small to help. The story was very colorful throughout the entire book, bringing out energy and happiness. When the hose gets out of control, the little letters are sent away. The lower case letters go on vacation but told they are too small.

It shows students not only letters of the alphabet but also words that are commonly used with that letter.

Alphabet Rescue is about Charley visiting his grandparents. They are a great "in-between" from cartoon and real life illustrations. His kindergarten teacher read it to him. I didn't know what was happening and it took me a couple of pages to reach the author's level. Children just learning their alphabet will relish the crisp, digitally-produced illustrations that feature brightly-colored letters and detailed backgrounds, and adults will appreciate the effective emphasis on initial consonants. I really thought this book was just another 'A is for apple' kind of thing but to my surprise, the book is actually a fictional storybook about a bunch of letters who take on an underdog appearance at first and with a little practice, end up saving the day.
