This course will use a systems approach to explore, in depth, the physiology of animals.  She is very excited to meet all the new pets and people - she strives for excellence in veterinary medicine while providing compassion and kindness for all. The course will emphasize many of the mathematical calculations used in basic inorganic Chemistry in addition to discussion of atomic structure, chemical bonding, nomenclature, reaction kinetics, stoichiometry, solutions, acids and bases. These skills include: anaesthesia, surgical incision, suturing, arterial and venous cannulations, castrations and ovariectomy, nephrectomy, and tracheotomy following accepted procedures. Candace graduated in 2004 from the Veterinary Assistant program at the St. Lawrence College. Barb graduated from St. Lawrence College in 1985 with a diploma in Animal Care Technology. Courtney graduated from the Veterinary Technology program at St Lawrence College in 2016 and earned her R status shortly after. You will continue developing your restraint techniques and performing health check-ups and treatments during the labs at the Kingston Humane Society. Completion of the Immunization - Communicable Disease Form is a mandatory condition for your clinical/practical placement. On her spare time she plays with her dog, Bruno, and helps with her family run horse farm. As a student in this course, you will be a team member of the Scruffy Dog Salon, a working lab that services privately owned animals. This portion of the course presents the nature of the work done in a small animal veterinary clinic. Abnormal behaviour will then be introduced, with the emphasis on typical behavioural problems and behaviour modification techniques, including pharmacological intervention. Normal behaviour is described, including communication, social hierarchies, biological rhythms, sexual development, maternal behaviour, and learning principles. This theory and laboratory course is designed to give Veterinary Technology students a deeper understanding of the functions and processes of the body systems. Students will be evaluated by on-site supervisors and must receive satisfactory evaluations in order to meet the requirements of this course. This course covers the use of Microsoft Office as commonly found in a technology environment to prepare basic written documents and to solve numeric problems as well as using applications to build models for assisting in solving technical problems. The U.S. veterinary medical profession contributes to society in diverse ways, from developing drugs and protecting the food supply to treating companion animals and investigating animal diseases in the wild.
